PRINCETON, NJ – Two ALC clients, Mother Jones and Modern Farmer, were among the short list of publications honored at the 2017 Ellie Awards gala, held on February 7 at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City. The annual event, hosted by the American Society of Magazine Editors (ASME), hands out awards to the best in print and digital media.
Mother Jones took home the event’s most coveted award – Magazine of the Year – a fitting recognition that caps a banner year for the publication. Mother Jones played an increasingly important role in the coverage of the past year’s divisive U.S. presidential election and, in the days and weeks following Donald Trump’s stunning victory, has witnessed an unprecedented surge of new subscribers.
Mother Jones was also recognized for its stellar investigative reporting, winning the Best Reporting award for their piece titled “My Four Months as a Private Prison Guard” by Shane Bauer, which originally ran in the magazine’s July/August print issue.
A reader-supported magazine founded in 1976, Mother Jones has seen a recent flood of post-election subscribers, bringing in 8,500 in November alone. Along with the growth in readership, the publication also managed to raise $203,000 in one-time donations during November 2016, a 1,591% increase over the average monthly amount, and continues to see increased levels of monthly donations.
In addition, Modern Farmer – a quarterly magazine focusing on the topics of agriculture and food – took home a General Excellence award in the “Special Interest” category. As the self-described “authoritative resource for today’s cutting-edge food producers and consumers”, Modern Farmer takes a passionate and inspired approach to addressing the issues most relevant to modern food production and the way we eat.
Both Mother Jones and Modern Farmer subscribers are affluent, well-educated, and committed to making the Earth a better place to live. They are passionate and involved in causes that promote social, humanitarian and political reform, as well as environmental sustainability, and are ideal prospects for any health and wellness offers, as well as social and environmental causes.
